Verify employer accreditation before accepting any offer. Check status at INZ's accredited employer search. Do this before any formal negotiation - changing course after accepting an offer from an unaccredited employer wastes months.

Healthcare. Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) is the country's largest employer. Critical shortages exist for registered nurses, GPs, pharmacists, physiotherapists, midwives, and aged care workers. Several public hospitals run direct recruitment campaigns targeting Indian professionals.

Information Technology. Software engineers, data engineers, cloud architects, and cybersecurity specialists are in consistent demand. Auckland hosts New Zealand's main private tech sector (Xero, Datacom, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare). Wellington's IT sector is anchored by government department contracts - stable, well-resourced.

Engineering. Auckland's City Rail Link, national roading programmes, and housing build pipelines sustain demand for civil, structural, geotechnical, and electrical engineers.

Teaching. Secondary school teachers in mathematics, science, and technology are in critical shortage. The Teaching Council has a structured pathway for internationally qualified teachers with two or more years of post-qualification experience.

Accounting and Finance. Chartered accountants, financial analysts, and tax professionals are consistently sought. Indian CA (ICAI) members can apply for recognition through CAANZ (Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand).

Your Indian qualification gives you an educational foundation - not automatic rights to practice in New Zealand's licensed professions.

Start registration processes at least 6–12 months before you plan to begin work in New Zealand. Medical and nursing registration typically takes 6–18 months. Trades licensing can take 2–4 years. These timelines are the most common reason skilled Indian arrivals have a gap between arriving and working professionally.

New Zealand law gives every worker - regardless of visa status or nationality - the same minimum protections:
