Indian Documentation Required for Australia

Compiling documentation correctly is critical. Missing or improperly certified documents are the most common reason for delays and requests for further information.

Documents for Skills Assessment

  • Academic transcripts and degree certificates (originals or certified copies)
  • Detailed position descriptions for all jobs used as evidence
  • Employment reference letters on company letterhead with HR/manager signatures
  • Pay slips covering the claimed employment period
  • Tax documents (Form 16, IT returns) corroborating employment
  • Professional registration certificates where applicable
  • Passport copy

Documents for the Visa Application

  • Valid passport (must be valid for the duration of the initial visa grant)
  • Skills assessment outcome letter
  • English language test results
  • Educational qualification documents
  • Proof of employment (same as skills assessment, updated if necessary)
  • State nomination certificate (for 190 or 491)
  • Health assessment results (uploaded by the Panel Physician directly to the Department)
  • Police clearance certificates
  • Proof of relationship status (marriage certificate, birth certificates of children, partner evidence if claiming partner points)
  • Passport-size photographs meeting the Department's specifications

Certifying Documents

All documents not in English must be translated by a NAATI-accredited translator. Original-language documents and their translations must both be submitted.

Documents submitted electronically must be scanned clearly. The Department of Home Affairs accepts colour scans of original documents. Documents submitted as certified copies must be certified by a Justice of the Peace (JP), a notary public, or a person authorised to witness documents under applicable law in the country of origin.
